Sub: The utter need to invent a prime logic for media institution, other than drama and
conflict !

Dear Rajdeep,

Warm Greetings !

When a professional killer decide to finish-off a victim for not leaving a direct witness, he has his own logic of his trade. When Gandhiji decided to fight for freedom of his country, he also had his special logic.

Logic usually derives from need based 'relations' invented by mind to suits the 'order'/consistency/unity need of our sense of reason. Such 'relations' work as guiding principles for future actions.

At times such relations naturally derive from 'pure reason', like in the case of the origin of the concept of 'freedom and liberty' in the minds of the American and French revolutionists, that appealed to them as 'self-evident' in nature. There was no pre-premises to base these concepts !

X,y, or z can have any logic to lead their lives. But men whose acts and deeds act as example and guidelines for others, or masses of people should invent their logic with extreme care. Eg. Responsible parents can not have wayward logic while dealing with the wards. Any person or institution that deals with large masses of people should choose their logic with similar extreme care, as what they do, speak and convey acts as 'premises' to infer the lives of the latter, the world or people at large.

Here, when a person like to you, a leader figure of media industry admits that the logic that guides media is 'drama and conflict', it leaves a very serious question Rajdeep: as media is an institution not of x,y or z, but one that carry the heavy responsibility of being 'peoples voice', 'watch-dogs' under democracy, 'silent educators of the world' etc, who else is there in the world to mind such vital businesses of mankind ?

It is public knowledge that our realm of country governance is guided more by very narrow needs and compulsions of professional politics, putting the genuine needs of people, society and mankind into great neglect and peril. So, the role of media as a creator of new logic similar to that created by the US and French revolutionists is extremely essential for the orphaned world. If they think it is not the direct mission of their profession, they must at least take the responsibility to be conduits for the elements that try to create new logic for society.

Hope you got the message that I was trying to convey !

Warm regards,

Abraham

How routine media acts institutionalize, and then pass-on dirty politics as DEMOCRACY to people ?

( The following matter was e.mailed to all leading tv news channels and newspaper editors during April 2013)

Ref: Routine stories in the media about political tricks, strategies and wars, scams and killings  for capturing state power

Dear Media friends and other men of intelligence,

Warm Greetings from 'conscience of the society', the philosophical non-profit initiative for causes such as human reason, justice, individual dignity and more centrally, that of a reformed democracy and media !

When the COLLECTIVE REALM of man in any larger community like modern states, is in the total grip and control of a game like POLITICS, a naked war for capturing state power for purposes other than that of collective welfare of people, human civilization as a whole suffers.

This is because it was this realm which was supposed to integrate varied energies of men and communities, institutions and values of in a  society  in such a way so that it ensures smooth journey of  human society into more and more developed realms of civilization. In the present scenario, this sacred realm is occupied by professional men engaged EXCLUSIVELY in a game of capturing the mythological POWER-STATES for its own sake !

The compelling grip of old dreams and myths of a COUNTRY RULER is still fiercely alive in the psyche of modern man and his societies !

When a great institution like media, the exclusive agency for the exchange of ideas, values and myths in modern societies are engaged exclusively in the act of evaluating, analyzing, debating and adoring this arrangement as DEMOCRACY, the peoples form of modern governance, the above ABSURD game gets institutionalized in the society to the peril of human civilization ! Mankind and everything rationale about his dignified collective living gets dangerously orphaned in the act !

Paul Goodman, who was called ' the father figure of the new left' by New York Times narrated the tragedy of life of man under the above kind of democracy as follows:

' there is competitive pressure to act a role, yet paradoxically one is rarely allowed to do one's best, or use one's best judgment. Proofs of success or failure are not tangibly given in the task, but always in some superior's judgment. Spontaneity and instinct are likely to be gravely penalized, yet one is supposed to be creative ...

'Wilhelm Reich showed that this kind of anxiety led to dreams of destruction, self-destruction, and explosion, in order to release tension, free something, and feel free'.

What we witness every day in the country in the form of rapes, abuses, violence and scams are expressions of such acts of destruction and explosion, in order to release tension and feel free by people !

Rousseau: ( in his 'ORIGIN OF INEQUALITIES') 'Bodies politic, remaining thus in a 'state of nature' among themselves, presently experienced the inconveniences which had obliged individuals to forsake it; for this state became still more fatal to these great bodies than it had been to individuals of whom they were composed'......hence arose national wars, battles, murders and reprisals which shook nature and defy reason...at length men massacred their fellow-beings by thousands without knowing why, and committed more murders in a single day's fighting, and more violent outrages than were committed in the 'state of nature'  during whole ages over the whole earth'

He was explaining the calamity of modern states acting as old individuals in a state of nature from where the so called CIVILITY emerged, in the form of democratic states !

We appeal to the media to represent mankind than a weird profession, where what they are supposed to do is only to depict the existing evil ways of any society in an entertaining manner to public !

Sub: World run like a ritual - -the MIND is dead ?

Esteemed Faculty members of Thomson Media Foundation,

Warm Greetings again from the Philosophical non-profit in New Delhi ! We wrote to you once, but, as usual, media institutions proved that they never respond to communications from PEOPLES class !

The MIND is increasingly getting dead and extinct in the world. World is presented to people more like a ritual by the media. A large, wild canvas made out of a thousand  smaller pictures - -without any clear identity, direction or sense !

The below write-up was circulated among a dozen top journalism schools in India. But none-of them cared even to send us an acknowledgment !

The most prestigious of media institutions in the world - your own foundation- was also not different in this regard.

That is why we feel that it is time to write OBITUARY for the MIND organ of man ! It is dead, or  getting non-existent. People are more or less turning face-less pieces in the institutions that they belong to. Hence, no mind -to - mind contact is thought to be NORMAL behavior. Only when people communicate as SPIRIT of their institution, it has any value !

We once again politely request your brilliant minds to go through what our Philosophic insight is trying to convey to the members of the media institutions in the world.

Subject: Will the top Journalism schools in the country consider following philosophical suggestions for enriching their syllabus ?

Kind attn: Principal, and Dean of the top journalism schools
 Dear Friends,
Warm Greetings from 'Conscience of the Society', a philosophic non-profit based in Delhi that stands for CAUSES of Reason, and  that of a reinvented democracy and media !
We, with our traditional  trait of going at the fundamentals of issues to understand it better, feel that modern world is bereft of a central CONSCIENCE chiefly due to a democracy that has turned 100% a political drama, and media, with its enormous power to define world's priorities, have become a primary tool for the drama of the said politics to enact itself !
No agency ( education, civil society, opinion leaders . . .)  in the world can get the political drama abandoned,or at least reformed because it wields POWER, and institutionalized political authority. Secondly, the only institution that is institutionally said to be representing PEOPLES VOICE, and DEFENDERS of DEMOCRACY , the media, as mentioned above, remain as the chief vehicle for the enactment of the said drama !
Hence, modern word, and most importantly the future world can not think of reinventing the lives of people with out first getting media to reinvent itself.
Will you allow us  to out line the chief points, and the areas where we think media can reinvent itself, in the spirit of sharing of minds in open societies ?
1) The most acclaimed role of media by one and all is their role as MESSENGERS. A messenger for every one. By being messengers for every party, media feel they are achieving 'objectivity', that is impartial emergence of truth.  They do not take any one's side, or any particular stand. They are just spectators like in a game of sports, as often cited by Mr.Vinod Mehta, one of the doyens of Indian media. As privileged spectators, media men might  be treated at the front row seats to watch the show, often rubbing shoulders with the  high and mighty in the government. But, they are expected to calm their nerves, and just report the show with utmost professional impartiality.
Here the problem is, truth is not merely being neutral. It has a distinct and clear path, direction, and serenity. Its sanctity lies in, as mentioned by Greek Historian Thucydides while describing democracy of his time during the famous funeral function of King Pericles the Great,: those unwritten laws whose sanction lies only in the universal feeling of what is right....'
Every person is blessed with this mystery 'universal sense' of what is right. During the declaration of the famous bill of rights, the American freedom fighters also mentions the same universality of such feeling: ' We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights…such as Life, Liberty and pursuit of happiness’
We commonly call this mystery sense as 'sense of reason of man'. We stand for the argument that media men can not ignore this universal sense of 'reason' while trying to achieve 'objectivity' and 'impartial messenger-ship' while reporting news and stories of the world.( our dedicated findings on 'Reason' and reasoning can be seen at blog link: http://philosopherskorner.blogspot.in/ )
Truth can not be at the side of every party. Hence. while quoting versions of every party involved in an incident and story, media men can not ever think of projecting truth, and direct men of the world into the much required rational directions. Such reporting will not serve to sanitize minds, but only increase its wilderness !
Currently this sense of reason applies only to compliance of an act, thought or stand of a person, a group, an institution or the state, with his/their/its popularly believed, or declared universal bottom premises of the respective party. For example, if a government's act, policy or stand is found opposite, or inconsistent with such declared bottom tenets of the constitution, or traditions, or that of the 'universal sense of what is right' in such situations, media-men become morally bound to question such act, stand and policy instead of blindly report the news 'objectively', touching neither here, nor there.
Such act of reporting then becomes a ploy to escape accountability, and any kind of responsibility ! It implies to give a kind of wild freedom to the media profession, leaving the world and people to their fates. It is equal to leaving the world orphaned. It is equal to taking the stand that 'we have nothing to do with any particular direction of the world', or that of human civilization. We are only professional messengers, and passive witnesses of events. Our professional,or traditional job is just to bring out stories on the actual happenings in the world. To offer it any rational direction, or sound any warning signal is not our job'!
2) The psychological reality of 'world' acting as a canvas for men to carve out their selves
The above role of media would have been acceptable if all men were highly rational beings, capable of drawing the right conclusions from the various media reports and stories, and modern governments in the world existed singularly for ensuring man's freedom, equality and his individual dignity, and carrying mankind further ahead in the path of improved human civilization, following its past traditions and intelligible paths that it has traveled so far. As every one will agree, modern democracy has become a convenient tool in the hands of our politicians of the time, to capture the political throne of power and authority, with least concern for the above mentioned pious missions and goals. It is primarily a different genus of game, wherein welfare of man, and progress of human civilization is an alien goal as far as the priorities of the game of politics is concerned. Therefore, a stand of media on the above lines would not only worsen the situation, and derail the course of life of man, but also help the political class to enact their game with an air of diabolic legitimacy. When media, the declared defenders of democracy is there in the scene with the above 'report only mission', such reports indirectly provide them with a kind of transparency and legitimacy as said above.
The above paragraph was about the freedom and legitimacy that media offers to the political class. A more severe result of such passive reporting of the world by media is the emergence of the world as a distinct category, and a parallel reality for men to react to. Ego always require an 'other' to build-up its entity against. It has no identity of itself. Egos will always use the existing world image as a canvas to picture themselves in it, and draw their entities. This is an existential feature of the ego entity of man. Here, the world created by the media acts as a 'collective' other for the ego to react to, and build its entity. Its directionless features, and its wilderness directly affect the egos of men. They tend to develop sense of stranded-ness and alienation. Sense of 'impersonal' would prevail around lives.  Thus, the quality of  lives of men is determined by the quality of the world around them !
3) The dogmatic belief of media profession in their above role in society
If any one attempts to convince the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim about the anti-social nature of his profession, can he simply accept it and reform himself ? Or, will such talks would succeed in getting a professional prostitute to abandon her trade, and join the mainstream? NO. Their occupations have become so incorrigibly institutionalized, and become their way of life, and part and parcel of the ways of the world too, that such attempts will be counted as foolishness from every angle ! They will argue that such professions are as old as the history of man itself, and the world would be incomplete without their existence. Very similar is the case of media ! If some one ask them to introspect on the rationale of running their profession, the answer would be on the above lines ! It is so old a profession, that it has turned an institution it self in the world ! It has become an important PILLAR, or an 'estate' ( the 4th estate) in the modern political system !
Despite the fact that media consists the world's best educated men engaged in the profession, such talks on the rationale of the profession would be sheer blasphemy to their ears ! A leading faculty member of a prestigious journalism school in India has already wrote to me quoting the 100 years existence of  the media tradition to argue his point.
We can allow all the other institutions to argue against questioning their bottom dogmas and beliefs, but we can not allow the media to so, because its is run by the world's best and brightest minds ! They should be open to review their bottom beliefs and dogmas every time !
4) The unrecognized power of choosing news and stories, and the more central aspect of allocating relevance to news by media:
While narrating a story, media attempt to give versions of every one to achieve 'objectivity' as seen above. But when it comes to the selection of stories and news, the absolute subjective choice of media men comes to fore-front. It is this crucial freedom that goes into making a world that media wants ! There may not be any intentional plot, but the general mind-set of media profession comes to play a determining role here.

Trade compulsions of the industry who are media's bread and butter providers ( with regard to advertisement income )and even as 'masters' with regards to many of the media houses today, and the  pressure from the establishment for not crossing their path in any way etc. go into making the above very peculiar world view of the media men. Hence, truth, and plain Reason can never remain the sole determining factor while selecting the stories and news !
The gross neglect of the media in not projecting the 'OCCUPY WALL STREET' agitation in the right perspective, was the chief theme in the non-mainstream media in the recent past all over the world. Such large scale black-outs can even deter the course of history, as what appear in the main steam media is one of the  chief sources for historians to assess the  course of history.
For conscientious men of the world, such black-outs are like strangling the mankind - -keeping them mum with force. They have no platform to react ! The former has the exclusive control over the VOICE of the world !
An allegation that media did not play their moral role in depicting the Holocaust with deserving importance is appearing in books and journal articles throughout the world these days. Though there appeared about a 1000 different stories in the 'New York times', the leading paper of that time, all the stories were tucked in the inner pages. General public, or even the US government itself got to know the scale of atrocity very late ! This allegation shows the power of allocating relevance to news, events and stories by media. What media do not cover does not exist for the world ! Your own senior Media man Ted Koppel said it emphatically:" whatever happens outside or beyond the scrutiny of television simply does not exist "
A more serious allegation that appeared recently was that, it was IBM that had provided data processing support to Hitler for his systematic annihilation of Jews ! He came to know about 'EUGENIC' - a secret biological mission that emerged in USA in the 1st 2 decades, to eliminate races other than the pure white Nordic race from America. He got in touch with its perpetrators, mainly its corporate partners like IBM, and even the Rock Feller Foundation, seeking assistance for his similar sinister schemes. It is said that during the prewar years, American eugenicists even openly supported Germany's program. The Rockefeller Foundation financed the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute and the work of its central racial scientists !
Can any one believe that such horrific things happened in the so called modern world even when an OPEN MEDIA institution existed here ? Even today, media can not keep their palms on the heart and declare that if such incidents happen again, they will stand against all odds, and stand unequivocally for the cause of mankind, and that of human civilization ?  Probably No, as there is nothing in their fundamental vows of the profession, that would compel them for taking such a firm and clear stand !
They of course have succeeded in creating the image of a transparent and open world, but their reporting "everyone's opinion...regardless of substance and merit" ( Ted Koppel) and  "communicate with everyone and say absolutely nothing" ( again Ted Koppel) gives the end result of widespread intellectual wilderness. In the such created cruel wilderness, injustices and deprivation of the freedom of men happen everywhere. A central world 'conscience' is thus absent in the world, as its slot is occupied by the world media without any substance and relevance !
Why I write these long lines to the journalism schools ?
You may naturally wonder why I write such 'mad' letters unsought to the journalism schools ! Because, it is more advantageous to write to you than writing to individual media leaders,   (they are products of your schools, unable to move an inch from the dogmas taught )  political leader ( they are mere consumers of the evils of an institution that we people had created for them) or intellectual leaders ( the world for them your creation )
If whatever I have conveyed goes into your sense of Reason, and then your professional associations decide to hold meetings and seminars to amend your syllabuses a bit, to include these new lines too, there are ample chances that future journalism students come out into the world to serve mankind and people a bit differently. The vows of future journalists can include ' unequivocally standing to represent mankind's sense of Reason' in the world. Hope I have succeed in explaining clearly, what does it mean to 'represent mankind's sense of reason' in the above paragraphs.
We have few dedicated blogs that handle these central themes, especially the one I had prepared as per advice of Sh.Murali, the director of the 'Chennai Press Institute' . After a few e.mail interactions, he had asked me to prepare a write-up on' CONTENT RELEVANCE TO PEOPLE' on media reporting. But after seeing what I have prepared, I heard nothing more from him ! It could be that, what I have depicted was a bit excessively outspoken.
The said write-up is at link: http://mediaandcontentrelevance.blogspot.in/ .  Kindly give deserving attention to my philosophic propositions, as  philosophy is a rare call among human beings !
I started this mission of communicating with media men some 2 decades ago. There was no e.mail during those fays, hence I used to fax frequently to all the major news paper editors on the above lines. You can verify this claim from Mr.Vikram Rao, one of the present members of PCI.
Besides the above referred blog, I have posted many of my communications with media leaders in the country ( Vir Sanghvi, Barkha Dutt, Rajdeep Sardesai, Sagarika Ghose, Arnav Goswmi ) and editors of HIndu, HT and IE) at links : http://mailtomrvirsanghvi.blogspot.in/
I apologize for this excessively long communication ! Hope you being educational  institutions, the ideas proposed will be taken up in the right spirit, and will be shared among all the faculty members and policy making directors in the respective institutions.
I politely seek valued comments from all of you !

Nothing exists in the world beyond what media could cover !

( This is copy of our communication with a top Journalism school faculty member In India)

Dear Prof.Siddiqui,

Warm Greetings !

This is simply to share some interesting quote on media act, by one of media's own top men.

Mr.Ted Koppel, describes his own profession:  "the shepherd constantly checking to see which way the sheep are headed; and then racing to overtake the flock so that he can be perceived as its leader. And whatever happens outside or beyond the scrutiny of television simply does not exist."

Koppel continues - -"We have reconstructed the Tower of Babel, and it is a television antenna: 1,000 voices producing a daily parody of democracy, in which everyone's opinion is afforded equal weight regardless of substance or merit." In Koppel's assessment, "We now communicate with everyone and say absolutely nothing."

The one below is the most interesting :

'Journalism has become a sort of competitive screeching: What is trivial but noisy and IMMEDIATE takes precedence over important matters that develop over time'.
If you remember, we recently shared a similar view with you on the media act, with the heading ' GODS OF THE PRESENT'. It was sent before we could see Mr.Ted Koppel's similar views.

Hope you would let your students share the above interesting dimensions of the media act.

How media's freedom to choose what to publish could change the world ?

(This is copy of of our communication with a top political leader in India on media role in society)

We have been working towards finding what the world media was lacking, for over 2 decades, and was in touch with media leaders, sharing our in puts periodically.

Our studies in pure philosophical subjects (such as our studies on the faculty of Reason) that you could see at our blog link: http://philosopherskorner.blogspot.com/ may help you to understand our dedication towards what we do, and help you to take our contentions seriously

Freedom of Press should not be a FREEDOM similar to the Freedom that Hippy movement had sought long back. . .a freedom from responsibilities and accountabilities towards the society !

The freedom used by the PRESS is the most RESPONSIBLE freedom, as it reflects the freedom of the FREE MEN in the world. It should not the personal freedom for media men for depicting what they think fit for the special needs of their profession.

Here, they use the crucial discretion to select what STORY , or what NEWS should be selected for publication.

Besides this, they also enjoy the crucial DISCRETION to allot the  ‘PRIORITY’ , to each story or news item they publish - - a freedom that could turn out to be DESTINY DEFINING for the world.

These two discretions enjoyed by the PRESS is what could make, or break the world.

We would site an example of the POWER of this discretion, from today's Hindustan times: ( 16th November,2011)

There is a report in Hindustan Times today, on page 10, by Bhadra Sinha, titled ' SC for re-look at parameters for granting bail to under-trials'. Please think of the impact it would make in peoples mind, if such stories had occupied the main head lines of the news papers, every day ? It would mark a massive shift of the PRIORITY of the PRESS, and people will start to feel a DIFFERENT world from day one after such a shift.

Such ‘priority shift’ only would make media, the true defenders of DEMOCRACY, and the FREEDOM of people.

Such shift of priorities, and discretion would demand great amount of WISDOM from media, and it is this wisdom that all the enlightened people in the world , and learned men like Justice Katju is expecting from the media leaders !

Stories and news items selected as per the sweet discretion of the editors, or as per set norms based on the 'APPEAL FACTOR’ of the news items alone are what makes the world a directionless flux in the mind of the people.

Media report such stories based exclusively on the VERSIONS given by the people involved in the story, for the sake of OBJECTIVITY. This norm makes a synthetic world, offering no SENSIBLE DIRECTION in the minds of people. It helps only to INCREASE the intellectual wilderness that the people already suffer from!

our communication with media leaders:part-2

Mail to media leadership- srl no.14 ( NDTV )

Ref: your recent (December end,2010) article in HT, 'lost in the din'

Dear Ms.Barkha Dutt,

Greetings from 'conscience of the society' the NGO that stands for philosophic initiatives to causes like Reason, Fraternity and reinventing democracy !

We appreciate you for your fresh attempt to introspect about true role of media in modern day democracy. As rightly observed by you, the kind of narratives used by media to pin-down individuals, our own kind of people, were very cruel, and many a times fit for silly school children !

'Kalmadi has been side-lined' , Kalmadi, the man who brought shame to the nation', the killer DSP Rathore', 'the so called human rights-enthusiasts like Arundhti Roy and others' - -the list goes long. What media lost was not the complexity of thought, but the very simplicity of it !

If Media was truly with the people and their simple, eternal aspirations and concerns, irrespective of  whether under democracy or any other form of government, they wouldn't have been in the opposite camp of people like Arundhati Roy and Swami Agnivesh !

People with mind are at least relieved that  Media have adopted a  different attitude towards Binayak Sen!

A democratic establishment was the most commendable and base act of rationality by the people. Here the political leaders have been given the actual drivers seat in governance of the country. Media had voluntarily taken up the role of
watch dogs over them. But they were often acting like rebellious adolescents, who does not feel oneness with the establishment but remain as an unattached outsider. It is the mad world of the grown ups, beyond their comprehension. Hence the typical rebellion. It is an attitude sans adult responsibility.

Media, in the democratic set up, should have played the role of a typical insider, an integral part, with the sole responsibility of watch dogs on the ones we had collectively seated on the drivers cabin. They should have been the sole agency for Reason in the democratic establishment. It is extremely heartening that at least now they are opening up in true introspection like in the recent article what you have done!

What media must represent and express should have been the true 'will' of the people as people have no other route to express their will in governance. People as such, never had clearly shown any will themselves in history. What the leaders forcefully tell them becomes their will. Hence Hitler turned German peoples' will into indulge in the holocaust. China hided behind the iron curtain for long years and still partially remain there was not because of their will. The black slaves never expressed their will to come out free till Abraham Lincoln conscience woken up to its need. Peoples will is like the will of crying babies. They often do not know what they need. They merely feel uncomfortable. When moms understand what they need, they stop crying.

This inability of people to have a rational will was the chief complaint of Plato about Democracy. Hence he commented :

"As to the people, they have no understanding, and only repeat what their rulers are pleased to tell them . …Mob-rule is a rough sea for the ship of state to ride; every wind of oratory stirs up the waters and deflects the course” . It was peoples will that had poisoned Socrates, his master!
Hence arise the utter responsibility of the most enlightened strata in the democratic society to act as the Reason and will of its people, instead of leaving it in the domain of political players. The latter always had agendas other than that of the welfare of its people in history, and even  today !

Hence, when media too isolate themselves into unrelated domains such as merely reporting the world, mankind get orphaned.

The media need not project themselves as victims of some sort in such articles. Unlike the much complex political arena, media can always initiate a CONCLAVE of its entire leadership, and adopt changed attitudes and mind sets.

You may use our banner to conduct such conclaves if Media can not directly do it. Media houses may kindly join our initiative for reinventing democracy. It is not our personal cause. It is the cause of the nation, or even that of the entire mankind !

Your tv show yesterday about Binayak Sen

The show aired opinions of people from different background and age group. But what impression one can arrive at other than a more confused state of mind? We have narrated some interesting truth about our celebrated faculty of Reason in our blog ‘ the mystery sparkle of Reason’.

One could arrive at conclusions based only upon the premises on the subject available at his disposal. We know well how equipped our mainstream members of public are with relevant premises to air opinion about matters of public domain.  It was the sacred duty of MEDIA to equip and enlighten them first with such knowledge, and not to raise smoke screen in front of their eyes with confusing TV debates. Such debates generally do not convey any final message or conclusion to viewing public !

Here comes the utter relevance of MASTER PREMISES every one in democracy must be familiar with. Kindly view our blog 'the hidden thread of the growth of human civilization' at our blog link :

At least the anchor should have had such master premises in mind to lead the group into the right conclusions. These are the directives a democracy  and the human civilization as whole must keep in mind to avoid confusion about its route. Without such master premises at the bottom of mind of every one, the debate creates only  smoke screens, behind which the truth always fade away.

Please excuse us for the sheer length of this mail !

Sub: Media is the only strata in society who could realize the under currents behind human violence and unrest !

To: Hindustan Times
Attn: Mr.Vir Sanghvi
Ref: your counter point column 'when the means don't justify the end'

Dear Mr.Sanghvi,

I read your final conclusions of the cause of violence with keen interest. Your conclusion is that some people actively choose the path of violence because they feel they could get away unpunished.

I was into philosophical pursuits from child hood. Causes that lead man to violence was one of my passionate themes of inquiry. You would agree, like poets and artists, philosophers also suffer from special pangs, anguishes and pains about the mystery of life. When poets ' fall upon the thorns of life and bleed' (Shelly?)our thoughts always sink to the bottom, searching for fundamental causes and principles.

Reason, as you would have noticed, has two distinct functions- - one, it helps to arrive at the most mathematically correct conclusion out of all given premises, and two, it splits a given ray of idea into its constituent sub ideas in a 'prismatic' function. While the first is more or less mechanical, the second is more creative, and always a never ending process. Every such fresh spectrum of ideas taunt you to arrive at conclusions and if you seek this option again, it will go on giving you never ending directions and options. Manifestation of this faculty of Reason has helped mankind to take his civilization into the present heights.

As I am actively into meditating on the human faculty of Reason, and in the process of writing my paper on it, I should also mention here that Reason is more or less a SEAT, or a SENSOR of ORDER kept inbuilt in man by nature. Hence it helps man to play and appreciate musical tunes (basically harmony of sound notes) work of art etc .It also compel man to fight injustice.( a form of disorder) It also makes great men to wage revolutions for bringing forth social changes.( compulsion to bring new order)

Will you care to go through the basic two causes of violence depicted in my attached work 'a different story on the origin of establishment' and offer your valued comments? It explains the origin and development of almost all our present day social maladies.. the naked rule of the strong over the less strong, the irrational myth of authority of the establishment, the central role of sycophant middlemen, our tendency of keeping women as items of possession and the permanent wall that separates haves from the have-nots.

This story has a presupposition that man's cosmic urge is to establish and maintain his 'entity'(his BEING) in the course of life. It is the mad urge that every unit of life including plants and animals share with human beings.

The two fundamental type of violence that my meditations have stuck upon are:

1) The oppressor's pre-emptive strike to punish the already oppressed class of men against their attempt to come out free and challenge the already established norms of superiority. The entity, or the BEING of the oppressors have been constituted and defined around such superiority, hence he has no other option but to strike hard and preserve his such entity.

2) From the very moment he has suffered violation of his entity(being)from the hands of the oppressor, it would remain the sole goal in the life of the oppressed to strike back, thus re-gain his lost entity and pride. His only two options are either go neurotic on account of his inability to strike back, or strike till he could annihilate the oppressor.

Unlike the animal species whose concerns and purely biological, man is blessed (or cursed?) to maintain his notional entity as an individual too. Hence unlike in the animal kingdom, man wage even wars for upholding his freedom, besides wars on pure biological causes like food and territory.

While the first kind of violence is actively chosen, the second is purely retaliatory. Oppressor keeps irrational premises about his superiority which can best be attributed to the still active remnant of jungle time primitiveness. Civilization was man's fight to get free from such primitiveness all through. Hence the onus of violence in the society is, without doubt, is with the oppressor, the powerful. The other party is cosmically compelled to retaliate For him it is violence, or the very annihilation of his sense of being!

The relevance of the science of ecology:

During the inception of science, man used it to thoroughly exploit nature and use her resources for improving conditions of life. But today he is compelled to reverse the course.. science of ecology teaches him to look after and preserve his environment if he needs to preserve himself! So we have tiger preserve programmes, forest protection programmes and what not! This new found wisdom is yet to turn its eyes towards the most central of this outlook of wisdom- - -need to preserve the 'other man' to save his society. The fellow-being is the first and the most central item in every one's immediate environment. He is the one to be preserved and looked after first for man to preserve his life, society, country and mankind.

Capitalism advocated the virtue of every man toiling his best to preserve his well being. The other fellow will follow the suit and preserve him self. Fact of competition was established as the naturally set condition for life. While the most successful minority could open factories and business empires, the less successful majority was asked to get transformed into effigies of officers, managers, drivers, workers, clerks and peons. Their entity as unique persons had no takers in the system. Every one was required to convert himself most efficiently as the specialized 'tool'/'component' that he was required to become in the process of running the machinery of business.

Communism as an ideology revolted against this mechanization of man. They wanted one from their class, a worker, to hold the reign of the system of production, and ultimately the machinery of business. In the absence of any different ideology to re-define life and relation between man Vs.man, communism ended up as state fascism.

Hence, there is a real gap to fill...a new ideology for mankind to run the business of life peacefully.

Our following blog post gives an out line as to what this new ideology could be: :http://newphilosophyoflife.blogspot.com/
Unlike Ayn Rand has branded, it need not be ALTRUISM when a man decide to take care of the other man in the course of doing business of life. It should be simply a 'common sense' decision, derived from plain sense of cause and effect, as evident from the principles of ECOLOGY. When a man, or a group, or the state violate the sense of self of another man, it triggers a massive negative energy. It is similar to dumping garbage anywhere and everywhere, or emitting carbon dioxide irresponsibly to deplete OZONE LAYER. Such irresponsible, primitive actions are definitely detrimental to the very survival of mankind. Man has to first take care the closest item in his environment - - -his fellow man, not out of morality (Altruism) but out of  sense of Reason and common sense.

A freshly re-invented Democracy can always take care of this rational attitude of man towards the other man, and that of state towards its people and fill up gap between rightist and leftist ideologies, and have a new direction for polity and life.

If such a new ideology do not rise among men in the world, and become a day to day fact of science and common knowledge that every student learn in school, future will again produce many Hitlers and Musolinies to threaten the very survival of mankind one day.

Media is the sole strata in society at present who could realize these fundamentals of polity and life. Once one or two Media leaders like you realize the above historical need of mankind, they can easily create a wave.
